Our mission remains simple: to support educators with a practical tool that makes planning and recording easier, allowing them to spend more time supporting learners.

Aligning with national ASN priorities

This next phase of development aligns with wider efforts across Scotland to improve experiences and outcomes for children and young people who require additional support. Following the publication of Janie McManus' rapid review of Additional Support for Learning (ASL), the then Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Jenny Gilruth, highlighted the role technology can play in helping school staff spend less time on administrative processes and more time focused on teaching, learning and supporting pupils

Trellis directly supports these national recommendations by helping schools build clearer, more consistent support pathways for young people.

What’s new in Trellis?

To prepare for scaling nationally, we are introducing a series of feature updates designed to make Trellis easier to access, smoother to manage, and even more pupil-focused:

• Many schools rely heavily on iPads. We are rolling out a native iPad app to replace web-browser recording, ensuring audio processing remain continues even when screen locks activate or wifi fluctuates.
• Managing logins shouldn't add to school admin. We are integrating Trellis with Single Sign-On platforms like RM Unify (Glow), Microsoft Entra ID, and Google Workspace, letting staff log in securely using their existing school credentials.
• We are launching a management panel for local authority stakeholders. This gives council leads self-service access to usage analytics, error reporting, and admin controls without needing to lodge support tickets.
• Documenting support is only half the battle; learners and families need to understand it. We are introducing an accessible explainer feature that supports the creation of more accessible, age-appropriate summaries of Child's Plans and meeting records.

Our ambition is to make Trellis available to schools and local authorities across Scotland.

We are engaging with local authority leads and Data Protection Officers across all remaining 25 councils right now to shape our standard onboarding processes.
